At this point the decision of what platform to use is still up in the air. I already setup and hacked the hell of phpbb, so naturally I proposed it. well I am about the only voice for phpbb.
They all want to use ASP.net.
the matter of fact I checked out those cms, the first one I checked out is phpnuke, boy it's not pretty. If you look at its codes, you know what spagatti codes are. I checked out postnuke, and xoops too but I don't like the whole structure, and it's not easy to hack them. So I stick with phpbb.
I believe it's a myth that to say php/mysql not scale well. Yahoo use mysql on some heavy traffic sites. For phpbb in particular, take a look at www.gaiaonline.com/forum, the site use phpbb, it has 900K users, 169million posts, (it's probably the largest forum in the world) and it's still pretty fast.
We all knows haiguinet needs some graphic designers badly, Langxie sure knows it.
