Not that Noam Chomsky says it, but it is proven that the US media has rarely been out of the control of the rich and the powerful, as the Chinese media has been largely controlled by the government. Both media serve the interest of a relatively fixed smaller group of people respectively. And I think the US media demonizes its Chinese counterpart rather because of difference in masters and not because of there is any fundamental difference.
I find a lot of Chinese, especially those self-righteous and self-assuming so-called oversears elite overly exploit and dramatize the difference between the two countries' propaganda models which is not fundamental, out of sheer idiocy or other motives. There really is NO fundamentall difference between the two. 1984 ??? Talk about Chinese highways having video cameras ! How about cams at US traffic lights, oh yeah, regulate traffic blabla.
If US media were free as you have claimed, then why is Dan Rather fired, Peter Arnette, Al Jazeera shut down, pictures of the gory dead solders were not allow to appear , VOA regrouped for interviewing Omar, etc ? The rich never lack possies and pawns to get the media talk what they want to hear and purge those that don't, they can even control the US government to fight an evil war. At least Chinese government doesn't represent the rich nearly as much as uncle Sam does.
