When working on the trading desk, your job is to make money for the firm. You don't trade derivatives contracts at the "FAIR" market value. Of course, you don't usually rip someone's face off, because your counterparty is equally intelligent, unless the counterparty is Orange County (an un-educated investor trying to play the big boys' game, CAO (the name said it all), or the Japanese eager to cover their axx. If you don't make money out of people like that, you are not doing your job. Remember, it's a jungle out there, if you are not ready, don't play! If you do, know what you are doing, 'cause otherwise, you'll get CAx-ed.
