You are very subtle. Can't disagree with you on this. As I replied to other friends, German and British can be called counsins racially and culturally. Though they may think themselves are essentially different, the perceived difference between them is no bigger than the one between Shandong and Henan, from most Asian people's perspective.
Partially because of this relativity, German immigrants adapted to British American culture quietly. Another example is my ABC friend always complains being asked "where are you from", which never happend on his American Born Finland(shoule be Finish, kindda funny) friend hanging around together.
Because of racial, religional, and cultural similarity, German and North Europeans can be categorized into the "main stream" with no doubt. As a manner of fact, German descendent is the second biggest sourse to British. Many people just don't know and ignore it.
I assumed the "main stream" include German and North European descendent, just can't find a proper name than "WASP" to describe them. They are too similar! While, if divided further, there are 苏南 and 苏北 even in Jiangsu province, but it's rather diversing my subject--- "How", not "What".
There is a good book about this immigration racial components, called "strangers from another shore". But I have not read it. So when I refer to "WASP", you know what I mean, dude!
