The following position description has been designed to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this classification. It is not intended to contain or be interpreted as an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of employees assigned to this job. Local job descriptions may be developed where appropriate.
Description
GENERAL PURPOSE

Directs the production in all plants within the organization. Responsible for establishing and maintaining morale, good industrial relations practices, delivery of customer products on time, controlling manufacturing costs, coordinating overall manufacturing problems and for good safety and housekeeping practices.


DUTIES:

1. Responsible for the manufacturing and related operations such as terminal stamping, plating tool and die shop, assembly, slitting and molding in accordance with quality and cost requirements and in time to meet customer dates.

2. Insures that production schedules are met, that production work load is properly allocated, and that plant facilities, personnel and equipment are adequate to meet schedules.

3. Determines cause of production delays, insuring that bottlenecks are promptly eliminated. Contacts and cooperates with Management, and Engineering, Production Control, Quality Control, Sales and Accounting and Personnel Departments. Discusses problems concerning product design, specifications, deviations, manpower, equipment and material requirements, scheduling and expediting orders, costs, methods and procedures changes, schedule and design changes, etc.

4. Works closely with, and assists Engineering Department in improving methods, suggesting and recommending product design changes to better facilitate production and lower costs, establishing work standards and otherwise improving the quality and quantity of production and reducing costs.

5. Establishes manufacturing departmental requirements for manpower, materials and equipment needed, revising estimates as necessary and submitting to Management for approval. Maintains conformance to budgetary limitations in production and industrial engineering departments.

6. Insures that work quality standards and procedures are adhered to for in process and finished components.

7. Insures that effective production records are maintained and determines what production reports are required to effectively control the production operations. Keeps Management informed of all operating conditions.


8. Keeps abreast of changes within the manufacturing fields incorporating and/or recommending new materials, equipment, processes and ideas into the production operation wherever possible to improve efficiency and control costs.

9. Insures that plant building and grounds, machinery, tooling and equipment are maintained in efficient operating condition, tat repairs are scheduled in accordance with production commitments, recommending additions, new equipment, tooling and machinery as necessary.

10. Selects, trains and develops subordinates for key positions, insures that forepersons and supervisors know their scope and responsibilities and delegate authority to effectively carry out responsibilities. Periodically reviews performance to insure that duties and responsibilities are effectively and efficiently carried out.

11. Assists in determining organizational structure and manpower needs, reviews established job classifications for changes conditions and makes necessary recommendations concerning new job classifications, and insures that employees are adequately paid for work performed.

12. Administers company policies concerning hiring, layoffs, discipline, transfers, promotions, demotions, etc. Investigates and takes action to resolve employee grievances, and otherwise promotes good employee-management relations.

13. Practices effective communication techniques to keep all concerned properly informed. Attends and/or holds meetings, conferences and seminars as required.
