Job Title : Senior Engineer, Hardware, LV Drive
Work Location: Shanghai, China
Reports to (Direct/Indirect): Continuation Engineering mgr
JOB DETAILS
Job Purpose
Under little supervision, the senior hardware engineer participates in an engineering team in the design, maintenance, modification, or enhancement of variable frequency motor drives products. Responsible for conducting the ongoing engineering of released products, including redesigns due to part obsolescence, meeting evolving standards, cost reductions, safety issues, manufacturing issues, and product quality improvement for warranty avoidance.
Conduct tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality and environmental regulations (state regulations, ISO 9000, ISO 14000, etc) as well as policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
_Be a highly technical individual contributor capable of providing significant impact to a business unit.
_Participate in a product team in the design, maintenance, modification, or enhancement of variable frequency motor drives. Work to meet cost, performance, and schedule requirements.
_Develops and interprets schematic diagrams, engineering sketches, and assembly drawings for the purpose of constructing breadboards, prototype, and production hardware.
_Provide design specification, define the test requirement, and perform qualification test in support of ICR (integrated cost reduction) program, strategic sourcing opportunities, product obsolescence replacements, and product design changes. .
_Perform root cause failure analysis, analyze complex malfunctioning electrical and electro-mechanical circuits or systems and satisfactorily design and test a solution for the malfunction.
_Act as a technical resource to the field engineering analysis support for customer applications per requirement. Act as a technical resource to manufacturing personnel in final testing/troubleshooting of products, and to act as a technical resource to the manufacturing test group.
_Participate in the requirements of new product design specifications and qualification testing prior to product release. Guide and/or conduct testing to regulatory agency, internal standards, and international standards. Prepare and conduct technical training on new products per requirement. Prepare and conduct customer usability testing on new product acceptance. Participate in field beta testing of new product and disposition early failure situations
_Utilize and interpret the following test and development instrumentation:
Analog and digital oscilloscopes, Analog and digital volt meters and ammeters, Differential amplifiers with voltage probes, Current transformers and hall effect current probes with amplifiers, LCR meters, Tachometers, Torque transducers, Power supplies, Plotters, Personal computers, Spectrum analyzers, Logic and data analyzers, Emulators, Microprocessor development system, Dynamometers, IEEE 488 networks and programming, and Environmental Chambers.
_Applies knowledge of internal/external processes to develop and implement strategic work assignments. Writes reports, test plans, functional specifications, hardware descriptions, and other related or supporting levels of documentation.
_Utilize and observe laboratory procedures for the safe and efficient use of electrical power and rotating electrical machinery.
_Define and participate in the Engineering Lab improvement activities.

_Responds with urgency to internal/external customer needs as they apply to the resolution of problems relating to technical product operation.
_Must posses a good working knowledge of the product and business needs. Must also develop knowledge of customer requirements and competitors offerings.

_Conducts tasks in accordance with applicable health, safety, quality, and environmental regulations (state/federal laws, ISO 9001, ISO14000, etc.) as well as policies and procedures.
_Adapts to change by identifying needs, adjusting, and working with others as appropriate to implement initiatives.

_Normally is self-directed and must be capable of making project decisions with minimal input. May direct efforts of designers and/or technicians.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS / WORK EXPERIENCE
(Education, qualifications and experience requirements an employee must have)
_M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics or Electromechanical Technology.
_5+ years of experience in dealing with complex electrical circuits and products. Strong ability in circuit analysis or simulation (experience with tools e.g. Simplorer, Pspice or Matlab is a plus). Solid expertise on power conversion, power semiconductor device theory, applied electromagnetic theory, electrical machinery, control, and test/development instrumentation.
_The preferred candidate will have experience in the field of power electronics products -motor drives, power supply etc. (development engineering, qualification testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting).
_English skills - oral, reading and writing.
_Customer interaction is a plus.
