The director Liu Guang Tang said proudly that, those items had been
exhibited eight times overseas and they were highly admired by
foreigners. He emphasized that part of collection was exhibited twice
in Japan, one in the Kyoto culture museum in 1992, and another in
the Sagawa art museum in 2002.
In Sagawa art museum's catalog, vice curator Wang Yu explains that,
originally museum was named as "Manchurian and Mongolian products of
the Kanto totokufu Show", which was constructed by Japanese in
1915. And then in 1917, it was renamed "Hall of Manchurian and
Mongolian products of the Kanto totokufu". In 1918, it was changed to
"Museum of Kanto totokufu". It became "Kanto agency in museum" in
1919, "Lushun museum" in 1934. Later, it was renamed "the Lushun
east museum" by Soviet Union in 1945.
Later it came back to China's management,and in 1952, it was renamed
to "Lushun history and culture museum". Finally in 1954, the name was
changed to "the Lushun museum" and remained same ever since.
(My comment: who cares about those names, so boring and meaningless,
above two paragraphs can be shortened to one sentence:
Museum's name was changed many times and finally in 1954 ...)
There are about 20 types of materials and over 20000 items in the
museum. Among the items from Xinjiang area, there are pictures of Buddhism,
mural paintings, hand-copied sutra, printings of Buddhist canon,
documents, plastic clay figures, potteries, wooden ware, the records
inscribed on tomb stones, old coins, silk products, fragment of
document, Buddhist texts, and so on.
In 1954, 620 manuscripts of Buddhist canon in Chinese character were
transferred from Lushun Museum to Beijing Library (National Library
of China).
Nine scrolls of sutras are collected at Lushun museum. In addition,
it has Buddhist canon, which OHTANI Kozui asked for earnestly. Among
those materials which are considered, Zuicho Tachibana was concerned
with arrangement for Chinese "Blue Book"). The blue cover stuck
many fragments onto the pasteboard. The investigation, conducted by
the grants-in-aid for scientific research, proved that there
are 52 Blue Books kept in the museum.
According to the report of vice curator Wang Yu, "on the whole, it
has a total of 1,714 numbers (??) and a little more than 26,500
articles in Ohtani collection inside today's Lushun museum", and "there
are more than 18,000 articles about Buddhist canon".
This announcement emphasized on the "Blue Book" of the fragments in
Chinese character of the Lushun museum, and I sincerely hope that you
understand the outline of "Blue-Book" by this report.
