I work at a leading investment bank in New York. From what I know, it's actually tough to find an investment banking position in China. First, most investment banks only have representative offices in mainland. Basically most of work is done in their Hong Kong offices. They generally don't hire many. Second, even if you go to Hong Kong to look for a job, it's still competitive since most banks recruit directly from American business schools, internally transfer people from New York to Hong Kong or hire people from other banks.
I was wondering what you exactly did when you were in New York? Corporate finance, sales, trading or research? If what you have done before is quantitative research as opposed to banking, sales, trading or even fundamental research, I honestly think the chance to find a decent job that can meet your expectation is tiny if not possible in mainland. For other positions, the skill set is highly transferable either in the finance industry or outside, which helps you a lot when you look for a new job.
