I applied for US citizenship early last year, but it has been delayed for name check. But I already accepted an offer from a big consulting company to work in China starting very soon.
I was told by USCIS that if I stay outside of US for longer than 6 months, my stay in US will be disrupted and hence I cannot be granted the citizenship. Worse yet, I don't even know if I can maintain my permanent resident status.
The name check process is a black box and you will never know when it will be done. It can be today, next month, next year, or even later.
So I wonder if anyone has similar experience and how you cope with it. Am I qualified to file N470 to maintain my residency as an employee of a US parent owned subsidiary that engages in overseas commerce (don't know what does the word "commerce" mean. Is consulting a commercial activity)?
