BRIEF JOB PROFILE DEscriptION:
The General Ledger (GL) Manager is a member of the leadership team of the Global Financial Shared Services Asia (GFSS-ASIA), providing financial transaction processing and accounting support for all businesses in Asia. In this role, the manager will be responsible for the management, coordination and delivery of all aspects of general ledger and fixed assets and Inventory accounting from transaction registration through to preparing financial statements in accordance with USGAAP and local statutory requirements. The Process Owner is required to support the Global Process Owner for continuous improvement of GFSS Financial processes globally. In addition to these responsibilities, the manager will be responsible for overseeing receipt of work migrated from the markets across Asia into Global Financial Shared Services Asia. The manager will be expected to facilitate the set-up of the new organization by being involved in staffing, establishment of policy and procedure, interface with markets, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work Planning and Resource Allocation
• Define and manage long term and short tem strategic and operational goals for the GL area ensuring global objectives are incorporated
• Provide Strategic guidance and direction for the GFSS-ASIA GL and Support Functions
• Appropriately staff the process, including development of resources for long term stability of operations and future business needs
• Ensure the consistent delivery of the process at a global level
• Work in conjunction with the VP, GFSS-ASIA and the Business Units/Divisions for the future strategic operating plan objectives in the GL processes

Policy/Strategy Development
• Develop and monitor GL policies and procedures, and resolve functional issues
• Develop the processes required for a steady state operation for GL processes
• Ensure that GL data transactions are handled in accordance with policies
• Provide strategic status reports to Corporate Finance Senior Management, BPO management, communication leads and other key stakeholders

Staff Training and Development
• Recruit, retain and motivate expenditure team that is “Best in Class.” Ensure that teams function effectively and efficiently.
• Develop individual team members using an on-going coaching, personal development and performance management process.
• Create an environment that supports continuous learning for team member to improve their functional knowledge of different areas within the GL process

Continuous Improvement
• Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and propose innovative solutions so the GL area can operate in an efficient and cost effective manner
• Identify upcoming opportunities for improvement; coordinate the implementation of improved processes, including training, communication, evaluations of effectiveness, and rework for continuous improvement.
• Support the Global Process Owner for harmonization, standardization and optimization of ’s global GL operations processes including planning and managing the execution of the process standardization / improvement.

Customer Service
• Ensure SLAs are met and service is delivered to internal and external customers as expected
• Engage and manage GL stakeholder relationships
• Develop, build and maintain relationships with all markets serviced by GFSS-ASIA
• Support Global Process Owner for developing metrics, scorecards to track customer satisfaction
• Ensure contractual obligations and commitments are met as it relates to the BPO service provider

Functional/ Technical
• Ensure consistent delivery of the GL processes at a regional level that maximizes reporting, analysis, and interpretation capabilities while achieving ’s cost reduction objectives
• Utilize and implement benchmarking best practices for General Accounting processes
• Responsible for US GAAP and Statutory books
• Maintain the books; including general ledger accounting and audited financial statements
• Responsible for maintaining and reconciling ’s bank accounts and monitoring to ensure sites are reconciling on a timely basis
• Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of fixed asset accounting
• Strong understanding of F&A BPO operations environment and service support processes

Analysis and Reporting
• Meet any external (e.g. statutory) reporting requirements
• Ensure annual statutory, F/S, tax returns, wage tax and social security matters are submitted in accordance with filing deadlines
• Reporting monthly/quarterly results via internal system to NY headquarters

Audit/Controllership
• Monitor, control, improve and administer systems, processes and databases to ensure system and data security and ensure they are up to date and comply with current legislation
• Closely work with internal audit to identify and implement new procedures to increase control of the overall process
• Ensure compliance to SOX and internal/external audit

Migration/Transition:
• Participates in Global Advanced Migration Planning
• Manages project plan development for process design and facilitates project plan status
• Provides formal linkage between GFSS-ASIA operations to Pf@st project and manages GFSS-ASIA expectations with project
• Coordinates GFSS-ASIA resources for project team and handles day to day relationship with market Business Process Lead
• Focus areas will include Australia/New Zealand, Japan, progressing to other areas of Asia
• Ensure smooth transition of targeted GL services to the BPO shared services provider
• Work with internal stakeholders (global and regional) as well as BPO service provider to facilitate and manage transition and regionalization
• Work with Senior Project Manager to ensure that program is being completed on budget and verify that transition milestone costs are completed
• Support Senior Project Manager in maintaining knowledge capital generated during transition and regionalization
• Identify project risks early, facilitating the development of an effective response strategy and proactively monitoring risk throughout the life of the BPO and regionalization

Requirements:
• Strong understanding of Finance &Accounting and GL best practices and requirements, international finance preferred
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and work in an unstructured, global, and virtual environment
• Proven track record implementing large scale, global transformation efforts for standardizing GL
• Excellent oral, written, negotiation communication skills
• Understanding of cultural differences in global geographies for F&A
• Fluent with Microsoft Office suite of productivity tools
• Sarbanes Oxley fluency
• Global project management experience
• Project management, change management, and strategic imperative implementation skills, including best practices for accounts payable and purchase-to-pay process.
• Strategic thinking with insight to understand and act on customer/Business Unit needs.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with teams to build team consensus, develop effective relationships, resolve conflicts, and influence others with the power of persuasion.

Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree or above, major in finance or accounting
• At least 8-10 years GL business experience with increasing responsibility, the later half In leadership roles, at least 2 years experience with a finance BPO
• Good written and verbal English skills, with CET 6 or TEM 4 (CET- Colleague English Test; TEM – Test for English Major), good written and verbal Japanese skills
• Process excellence background and / or certifications (Six Sigma etc a plus)
