Your wife need apply for a work visa, while you can accordingly get a "Dependent Visa". Since your work is done from your home, you don''t need to tell China tax office or anyone that you are working in China. Nobody cares, if you don't tell. Your payroll, however, can be set up in the US. This is actually very benificial to you, as you may be qualified to be exempted from the income taxes from US as well.
But of course, if you want to be perfectly, perfectly legal, you can tell the China tax office that you are working in China from your home and pay them taxes. I am not sure if you actually can pay taxes, if you do not have a company to work for in China. So, save yourself some hassel.
