Reply to the authors: It mainly deponds （depends) on your personality, in particular, the willingness of exposing yourself in brand new culture with an open mind.
The beginning of my American journey wasn’t full of fears but curiosity and excitement. Language is the key of arming myself to have things rapidly under my control. .With unsmooth (broken) English and limited knowledge about Americans, I learned and handled on my own. There are no secrets or shortcuts but practice, practice and practice.
In SunZi’s war strategy, success was formed by “timing, location and harmony”. So true: half effort, half luck. I have quite a few very good America (American) friends. I haven't seen that much dark side of Americans. I am sure there are. Outsides (Do you mean “Besides”?), I got the bonus- the friendship. My buddies make me feel that there is (are) no boundaries and obstecals (obstacles) between two culture(s). All is openness and understanding. LOL
One of them became one of my best lifelong friends. My best friends (friend), Tiffany, a brilliant and successful Americanm (American) woman, (was) amazed by enormous commons (common features) between her and me via the plenty of causual (casual) and intellectual conversations (sounds quite awkward. I do not know how to change this sentence. Maybe you should not use the article “the” in “the plenty of”. Also, maybe you should try to use a shorter sentence). She was pleased by the fact that she always could (I cannot say this is wrong, but it sounds better to say “she could always”) find an understanding friend regardless the person's race, background, culture and age.
