机器翻译主要有两大流派。一种是基于句式模板和语料库的路线。另一种是用条件概率马可夫链等数学方法的统计学路线。国内机器翻译的主要研发基地在哈工大和中科院。前者比较适合于手持移动设备的嵌入式语言翻译芯片，后者为Google、Yahoo等搜索引擎公司采用。
Google 用的是方法是对网上大量的双语和多语网站的语言作统计计算，技术来自于德国亚琛工业大学，由德国人 Franz Och 负责人。百度用的是国内金桥在线的翻译引擎。
