1) your freind made a fatal mistake in
he related the request for increase to his increased needs
by supporting the family, instead of bringing on his offer
from another (which i hope for his sake was substentiated)
2) based on what the boss responded with, there is a chance
that the boss will get more projected goals linking to his
salary at a low entry level for top MBA graduate
3) your friend fucked up already, time to move on. as you brits always say: tell them to "piss off" where we would say "go and fuck yourself" in america. we don not dance around with the fucking oxford english!
4) it is now fatally important to go back to the swiss company
and substentiate the offer. people should consult wives on decisions like this, but not to let them make decision alone
that later they regret and blame you for listening to them...
at least, lay out the options with all the upside and downside
list out, so the wives can make a intellegent decision for the
model husbands, or simply give up and say, i willlet you decide
in conclustion, your friend fucked twice: first time, failed to inform his wife with the full picture; second time applied the wrong approach and his boss is now pissed...
run, tell the man, if any spot is out there and available
